The DWSA, Sand Town Municipal Solid Waste Facility is a completed 4-acre long-term interim cover system located in Sand Town, DL. The site is the first application in the state to use ClosureTurf® as an EPA Subtitle D compliant landfill closure system. DWSA & DSWA’s contracted Landfill Operating Company, George & Lynch, Inc. were faced with soil erosion, maintenance costs, slope integrity and landfill gas (LFG) issues with the existing interim long-term closure system. ClosureTurf® was evaluated against a 40-mil membrane and 24 inches of protective/vegetative soil layer utilized as a temporary long-term closure system. George & Lynch proposed the CT system and financial benefits to DWSA.
DWSA & George & Lynch selected ClosureTurf® specifically to eliminate soil erosion, reduce interim closure maintenance costs, increase slope integrity and enhance landfill gas (LFG) management.
