AGRU and SCUTE, a local nonprofit, collaborate to help raise awareness among visitors and minimize human impact on the loggerhead sea turtle nesting habitats.
[Georgetown, SC, June 30, 2025 —] AGRU America, Inc. (AGRU) is proud to announce a partnership with South Carolina United Turtle Enthusiasts (SCUTE) to raise awareness and help protect the loggerhead sea turtle, a threatened species. AGRU’s headquarters in the United States are in Georgetown, SC, near the popular tourist area of Pawleys Island, where South Carolina’s state reptile, the loggerhead, nests from the beginning of May to the end of October. The new billboard on Highway 17 in Pawleys Island, SC, highlights best practices for beachgoers during the nesting season.

“SCUTE’s mission is to watch for active loggerhead nesting, protect them, and record data to share with DNR (Department of Natural Resources),” says Rick Scott, Head of the SCUTE Organization. “Our Pawleys Island beach leaders and volunteers came up with the billboard idea to promote beach best practices to help minimize human impact on loggerhead nesting habits. We have over 200 volunteers who help watch over 13 habitats from North Myrtle Beach to DeBordieu.”
Loggerheads, young and old, are guided by the direction of the strongest light after dusk, the moon. “Lights out! Sea turtles dig the dark,” has been a long-running and successful SCUTE campaign spotlighting the effect of light pollution on a threatened species. The billboard is positioned in a busy area of Highway 17, featuring the highly recognizable SCUTE imagery and message.
AGRU is dedicated to supporting its local community through its outreach campaign. The campaign emphasizes workforce and community development by collaborating with local organizations committed to global efforts in creating more sustainable communities.

“This collaboration with SCUTE is part of our ‘Global Company, Local Impact’ campaign that began two years ago,” says Yuse Lajiminmuhip, Marketing Business Unit Manager at AGRU America. “Our campaign emphasizes efforts to support the growth and development of our future workforce and protect the environment where we live.”
